At least that's what my parents said. It's a day that means a lot to me. My father spent four years as a slave laborer in Nazi Germany, and my mother spent two and a half years there. When I was a child growing up in Chicago, All Souls Day wasn't a big deal. He wanted to know how my father celebrated May 3rd, Polish Constitution Day. I posted a piece recently on this blog about Growing Up Polish American. He was born on a small farm in Poland and never attended school. My father wasn't an educated man.
